The Department of English and Tamil is one of the most vibrant departments of the College. The department has four fully qualified and dedicated faculty members. The department has a language laboratory catering to the communication skills of the students. Besides the academic programme, the department offers guidance to the students appearing for the BEC examination conducted by the Cambridge University, the IELTS and TOEFL exams that enable the students to pursue their Masters in foreign universities. Many in-house activities, like debating, essay writing, short story writing, Spell –Bee competitions and Poster designing competitions are conducted through "Communication Club”, a club under the aegis of the department of English. Moreover, for the benefit of the staff members in general and faculty of English in specific, various programmes are conducted.
To empower students with strong communication, literary, and cultural competencies, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and ethical values to meet global challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.
The department of English has a full-fledged language laboratory to develop and enhance the learners’ macro skills ie., listening, speaking, reading and writing and to strengthen their prospects of success in taking competitive examinations. A one day National Seminar was conducted on “Soft Skills”
A one-day FDP on “Teaching Listening and Speaking Skills” was organized by the Department of English in association with the Department of English, Anna University, Chennai-25 and the Orient BlackSwan Private Limited, India Publishing House.
A funded project of Rs.1,50,000/- was sanctioned by AICTE to conduct FDP on “Development of English Language Teaching Skills for Teachers in Engineering Colleges” for two weeks.
